The iPhone SE 3 offers a major update on the previous generation – and it’s highly affordable

This popular handset is much more affordable than Apple’s flagship iPhone 14 but still comes with some stunning features.

The iPhone SE keeps things old school, in what our tech editor Sean Keach calls a “masterclass in optimisation and trickle-down tech ” in his iPhone SE review.

The goal of the iPhone SE is to get back to basics, so you’ll get a smaller form factor, Touch ID, and a much lower price tag.

The new iPhone SE 3 model has given future-proofed the model, which now sports the same A15 Bionic chip and iOS 16 as the iPhone 14 range.

It also comes in three colours – Starlight, Midnight, and Product Red. A portion of proceeds goes to charity from sales of Product Red phones.

Best O2 iPhone SE deals

  • iPhone SE 64 GB | 100GB data | £28 per month | £0 upfront | 24 months – buy from Buymobiles
  • iPhone SE 64 GB | 200GB data | £29.50 per month after £108 cashback | £0 upfront | 24 months – buy from Buymobiles

Best iD Mobile iPhone SE deals

Up-and-coming network iD is often top of the list when it comes to affordable deals, they switch up their deals weekly so snap them up quickly.

Piggybacking from Three’s network, iD has 5G and will roll any spare data you have for you to use at another time.

Their SIM-only deals are where they particularly shine but these pay monthly phone bundles are also winning options.

Best Vodafone iPhone SE deals

One of the big mobile networks in the UK, Vodafone is known for solid coverage across the country.

Vodafone can be a more expensive brand but if you buy through third-party companies you can slash your monthly cost.

There are some brilliant deals around on the iPhone SE using Vodafone’s network at the moment.

Best EE iPhone SE deals

EE is the fastest network for 4G and 5G in the UK, making it one of the top providers.

The downside of this is that plans are nearly always more expensive than elsewhere and discounts are scarce.

For people who like to recycle their phones, EE will give you £4 off each month when you trade in any iPhone newer than an iPhone 7.

  • iPhone SE 64 GB | 25GB data | £44 per month | £30 upfront | 24 months – buy from EE
  • iPhone SE 64 GB | 125GB data | £47 per month | £30 upfront | 24 months – buy from EE
  • iPhone SE 64 GB | Unlimited data | £52 per month | £10 upfront | 24 months – buy from EE

Best Sky Mobile iPhone SE deals

Sky does their deals slightly differently, offering you a pay monthly deal on the phone and then a separate deal on their network usage.

This can be confusing but it usually means while your handset contract lasts 24 months, your SIM contract runs for 36 months.

Also with the iPhone SE, Sky caps its airtime plans at 50GB for some unknown reason so if you’re a big data user this is not the one for you.

When did the iPhone SE come out?

Apple’s original iPhone SE model was released way back on March 31, 2016, and was the first move into the budget-friendly market by the notoriously expensive brand.

Its popularity hasn’t waned over the years resulting in Apple giving the model much-needed updates to keep it up to scratch while keeping the loved form factor.

The latest iteration, the iPhone SE 3 was released just last year on March 18, 2022, giving the handset a new lease of life for the next few years.

How much is an iPhone SE?

If you want to get your hands on the latest iPhone SE 3 model on the Apple website, then it starts at £449 for the 64GB handset, £499 for the 128GB model, and £609 for the 256GB handset.

But you can pick up refurbished models for under £200 if you shop around for deals, with Amazon having plenty of certified handsets to pick from.

How big is the iPhone SE?

The iPhone SE 3 is one of Apple’s smaller devices, coming in with a 4.7-inch display.

The home button and the camera bezel eat into the display real estate on the device, but this is the caveat when opting for a budget device.

Is the iPhone SE waterproof?

As with all of Apple’s devices, the iPhone SE comes with an IP67 dust and water resistance rating, meaning it’s both dustproof and water resistant.

It’s not waterproof but can handle splashes, rain, and brief accidental water exposure and in extreme cases one meter of water for up to 30 minutes, but it isn’t designed for your underwater photography.

Is the iPhone SE 5G compatible?

Thanks to Apple’s latest upgrades in early 2022, the new iPhone SE 3 is now 5G compatible, making the fan favourite fit for the market and a great contender to other budget handsets.
