BBC iPlayer views have been left frustrated after the popular streaming service mysteriously stopped working on their TVs.

The broadcaster has issued advice to affected users on how to fix the problem, known as the ‘02050’ error message.

The alert reads: “Something went wrong loading this programme.

“This is usually a temporary problem. If it’s a programme that’s just finished on TV, then try again shortly or try a different programme. Error code: 02050.”

Users have taken to social media in hopes of finding a fix since the beginning of January.

“@BBCiPlayer why am I suddenly getting this error message on my TV? I’ve done all the troubleshooting on the website and still nothing,” one user fumed on X, previously known as Twitter.

“@BBCiPlayer the traitors episode 6 won’t stream or download without an error on iPlayer,” another said.

On Tuesday, the BBC posted an update on its website saying the corporation is “aware that some users are unable to access iPlayer on their TV devices”.

“We believe this can be resolved by updating the firmware on affected TVs,” it said.

Fortunately, it appears there is a way to fix the problem.
