A BARGAIN supermarket has slashed the price of its champagne that shoppers have branded as “better than Moet”.
Who doesn’t love a bottle of fizz to celebrate the New Year? But with most costing anything from £35, it can set you back a bit.

Luckily for champagne fans, Lidl has today slashed the price of its award-winning Montaudon Champagne Brut by 30% from £14.99 to £9.99.
Lidl’s fizz was voted better than Moët & Chandon in an independent blind taste, with six in ten participants agreeing the supermarket’s own-brand fizz “tasted better”.
The deal runs through the Lidl Plus app from December 29.
Louise Weise, promotions director at Lidl said: “Our customers rave about the quality of our Montaudon Champagne Brut, so we were delighted that the results of the independent blind taste test confirmed what we already knew.

“Lidl Plus offers our customers amazing deals every single day and we wanted to celebrate with them by giving them an extra special discount this New Year’s Eve – but they better be quick as it won’t be on shelves for long.”
You can sign up for a Plus card for free either on Lidl’s website or by downloading the app on to your phone.
The app is downloadable via Google Play and the App Store.
Champagne and sparkling wines such as cava and prosecco are all made in the same way.

But, only certain sparkling wines can be called Champagne.
To be called Champagne, the sparkling wine has to come from the Champagne region in France and can only be made using certain grapes.
