Barclays has tweeted to confirm the outage.

It wrote: ‘If you’re having problems logging into our app or Online Banking right now – we’re sorry.

‘We’re working to fix this and will update you here as soon as possible.

‘In the meantime, you can still use our automated telephone service as normal.

‘For updates on all our services, and to request a text when we’re back up and running, search “Barclays service status” online.

‘Thanks for bearing with us.’

‘When is this going to get sorted. It’s been over 4 hours now for me that I can’t get into my account. I need to move money from savings to be able to go shopping,’ one user wrote.

Another added: ‘I literally can’t buy myself lunch, please sort this out it’s absolutely ridiculous.’

And one vented: ‘I had to walk away from my scanned and packed shopping in the supermarket today as I couldn’t use my app. This is so embarrassing and here you are consoling us with broken links to your Service Status site. No indication of when this may be resolved. This is unacceptable.’
