The pioneering figure in broadcast journalism Barbara Walters is still alive. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College, Bronxville, New York in 1951.  

At the beginning of her career, she worked in an advertising agency. She was an assistant to the publicity director for New York City’s NBC-affiliated television station.

After her years of experience in writing and producing, she became a news and public affairs producer and writer for CBS. Later in 1961, the NBC morning show Today hired her as a writer. 

Later on, she prominently rose to fame with her strong presence on camera intelligence, and solid journalistic work. Becoming one of the popular personalities, Walters was the cohost of Today with Hugh Downs.

As of 2022, Barbara Walters is 92 years old. She was born on September 25, 1929, in Boston, MA to her Jewish parents Louis “Lou” Walters and Dena. They were descendants of refugees from the former Russian Empire.

Her parental grandfather Abraham Isaac Warmwater, born in Łódź, Poland emigrated to the United Kingdom. That is when he changed his last name to Walters. 

Followingly, her father who was born in London moved to New York with his father and two brothers in 1909. During her childhood, her father managed the Latin Quarter nightclub.

Later on, in 1942, he opened the New York version of the Latin Quarter. In addition, Louis was also a Broadway producer where he produced the Ziegfeld Follies of 1943

Barbara Walters Health Update- Retired Journalist Condition

Barbara Walters who retired in 2014 has had a declining health condition for a long time now. As per the reports, she has dementia and a declining mental state. 

Due to this, her family members have been keeping her away from current news affairs. In addition, back in 2010, Walters stated that she would be happening open heart surgery to replace a faulty aortic valve.

Later on, the spokesperson to the journalist stated that the procedure went well and doctors were happy with the outcome. During one of her emotional interviews, she stated that she would have spent more time with her family instead of prioritizing her career.
