THE first of Asda’s “Just Essentials” range arrived on shop shelves and online TODAY.

Eventually the full range will be stocked in all 581 of the supermarket’s budget stores, but shoppers can start to get a taste as some of the products are ready to buy NOW.

60 products line the shelves this week as well as being readily available online.

Everything from fresh meat, fish and poultry, and bakery goods, to all kinds of cupboard staples, are being offered by Asda at a rock bottom price in the range.

The supermarket giant explained that this month shoppers can get their hands on fishcakes, salmon portions and braising steak in store.

Meanwhile, The Sun has already spotted treats like scones and pizzas, plus ready-meals like macaroni cheese and fish pie, lined up ready to add to your basket online.

Prices start from as little as 32p.

But when the full range is completely rolled out in stores, it will be made up of a total 293 products.

That’s double the amount of discount offerings than the supermarket’s previous budget range, Asda Smart Price.

Asda had promised earlier in the year to axe its value range and replace it with a new line, as the cost-of-living crisis continues.

But despite letting shoppers in on a few of the deals now, there’s still a way to go before they can access everything from the new range.

The supermarket has revealed that over 130 products will be available by the end of June, though, and 267 lines will be shoppable as early as August 13.

Then, a remaining 26 products will land in stores by the end of the year.

As well as foodie bits at a budget price, the line includes more than 20 essential household and toiletry products like washing-up liquid, toilet roll, laundry powder, shampoo and conditioner.

The new reincarnation is hard to miss on the shop shelves as well, with vibrant yellow packaging and a bold new font to go with the redesign.

Sam Dickson, vice president of Asda brand and propositions, said: “Nine out of ten of our customers have told us they are concerned about the cost-of-living crisis, with 44% of them saying they’re actively looking for ways to make their grocery budget go further.

“We’ve developed Just Essentials by Asda to offer our customers the same value they know and love from our Smart Price range, but across a much larger and more diverse range of products, and with a bold brand that is hard to miss.”

The supermarket pledged to stock the cheaper products at all of its stores in response to pressure from campaigners over rising prices.

Families face rocketing grocery bills as inflation hits a 40-year high.

But what’s going into the trolley isn’t the only financial strain that households are up against.

Energy bills could go up another £800 in October as they hit £2,800.

They already rocketed by £700 earlier this spring as the energy price cap went up to £1,971 on April 1 from £1,277.

All the while, hiked tax bills and soaring prices at the petrol pumps, pummel Brits will more financial pressure.

Asda isn’t the only store to introduce value alternatives in an attempt to be kinder on struggling household’s budgets though.

Morrisons, for example, has more than 250 products in its “Savers” range.

Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s had a value line called “Basics”, which has since been replaced with a variety of names including Hubbard’s and Stamford Street.

And Tesco was host to its own “Everyday Value” line, but even with the line gone it still stocks a range of different names for its own-brand products.
