Customers have been left buzzing following the announcement.

One person said: “Great news. It’ll be a lot better.”

A second shopper said: “Buzzing mate!” and a third added: “Looking forward to having a look around!”

It comes after Asda snapped up 356 petrol station convenience stores from the EG Group, which runs the Leon chain of restaurants.

The retailer is also converting 116 Co-op petrol stations it bought out from the supermarket chain.

The 24 sites opening this week are a combination of former Co-op and EG Group sites.

Four of the 24 opened to customers for the first time yesterday while the remaining 20 are opening today or over the coming days.

How to save money at Asda

Looking to save on your next Asda trip? Here’s a few tricks.

You’ll want to start by downloading the retailer’s loyalty app – Asda Rewards.

You can build up points which are added to a pot and can be turned into vouchers to get money off future purchases.

Not just that, but you can get boosts on points when buying “Star products”, which are updated on the app on a regular basis.

You can download the scheme on to your smartphone via Google Play or the Apple App Store.

After this, you’ll want to keep an eye out for any yellow sticker products – what staff add to items to show they are reduced in price.

A study by consumer website Which? found the best time to visit to pick up these stickered items is in the morning and evening.

Meanwhile, you might want to take on the advice of one Asda superfan, who’s tips could save you £100s a year.
