The budget ring is a simple silver-coloured band with one diamond-style gem in the middle.

It comes packaged in a red, heart-shaped box perfect for Valentine’s Day.

The George by Asda ring is available in stores and you can also add it to your online shopping basket

In the product description, Asda said: “Share some love with this ring with matching heart box.”

Shoppers were divided over the ring on social media, with some saying proposing with it would be a sweet gesture.

Others made jokes about the price compared to the cost of a standard engagement ring.

“A lot of people get one like that and then go out and pick the real one together,” one shopper said on Facebook.

Another fan said: “I will take my 8 year old son to get one for his girlfriend, he proposed in the school playground the other day with a pretzel, I think she would prefer one of these!”

Someone else commented that it was worth paying £1 “just for the box”.

But another person joked: “Is it a real diamond?” and one tagged a friend in the post, adding “save yourself a few quid”.

Poundland is also selling a £1 engagement ring as it has done in previous years.

It first launched the Bling Ring range in 2019 and it sparked a debate on social media.

Poundland marketed the jewellery as a placeholder ring, allow partners to pick their own engagement ring at a later date while not missing out on the magical moment.
