THE price of milk is starting to fall, with both Sainsbury’s and Tesco cutting the cost of a pint to 90p from 95p.
Other supermarkets are following suit, but there’s a way to go until it reaches the 52p average it was a year ago.
Milk is a key ingredient in many great value dishes, so crack open a bottle and make these cheap eats.
SAY CHEESE: With a spoonful of flour, a chunk of butter, a block of Cheddar and a pint of milk you can make an easy cheesy sauce that can give a real boost to a pasta dish.
Use it to create a lasagne, or for cheaper meals, simply pour it over penne, peas and ham, or make a speedy macaroni dish.
This sauce can be made most easily by putting butter, flour and milk in a pan and whisking constantly while it warms and thickens, then stirring in grated cheese.
FLIPPING FANTASTIC: If you’ve few eggs knocking about, you can combine them with flour and milk to make a stack of cheap and easy pancakes.
For a savoury meal, fill them with chicken and broccoli and some of that cheesy sauce.
Or treat the family to a weekend brunch, topping your pancakes with syrup and frozen berries.
PERFECT PUDS: Creamy rice pudding is so easy to make.
