IT’S usually common practice for banks and building societies to close their doors on bank holidays – and the Easter break is no different.

Some shops, retailers, restaurants and businesses will close their doors to give staff some time off.

For example, all supermarkets over a certain size have to close their doors on Easter Sunday.

Others operate reduced hours on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

If you are worried about getting money out at your nearest bank, cash machines are unaffected.

We’ve listed which banks have confirmed that they’ll be closing their doors later this week below, as well as how you can get in touch if you need to.

Barclays

Barclays branches are closed on bank holidays, meaning you won’t be able to use your nearest on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Opening times outside of these dates will be normal.

You can check what time your nearest bank branch is open using the branch locator tool on the Barclays website.

You can usually bank online on any day or hour even if branches are closed.

If you need to get in touch with the bank when they are closed, you can use the online “chat” function on your app or call the bank on 0345 734 5345.

Be aware though that customer services may be operating reduced hours over the long weekend.

Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland

Lloyds Banking Group, which includes Bank of Scotland, Halifax and Lloyds Bank, will be closing its branches on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Beyond that, opening hours will vary depending on the branch.

To see your nearest branch opening hours, use the branch locator on your bank’s website which will give you all the information you need.

You can still bank online with any of the banks even when a branch is closed.

But there may be less availability with customer support if you need to speak to someone.

Nationwide Building Society

We have approached Nationwide to find out its opening hours for the Easter bank holiday and will update this story when we’ve heard back.

However, in 2022 it closed all of its branches on Good Friday, as well as Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. Branches stayed open on Saturday.

You can find out what time your nearest branch will open by using the Nationwide branch locator tool.

If you have an urgent inquiry when branches are closed, you can contact Nationwide Building Society by calling 0345 730 2011.

You can also message the bank on its website.

Santander

Santander is closing its branches on Good Friday and Easter Monday, while on other days normal operating hours will be in place.

Use the branch locator tool on the government’s website to check when your nearest branch will be back open.

Santander has a call centre which you can reach on 0800 912 3123.

The call centre is open seven days a week from 8am to 6pm, but this may change over the Bank Holiday period.

You can also contact the bank through their online chat function

HSBC

HSBC is closing its banks on Good Friday and Easter Monday, while they will be open on the other days.
