Barts has decided 12-year-old in a coma will no longer receive life-preserving treatment but mother has pleaded with health secretary

A 12-year-old boy left in a comatose state after suffering brain damage will have his care withdrawn at 2pm on Monday, despite a desperate plea from his mother urging ministers to “act immediately” to stop treatment ending.

Archie Battersbee is being cared for by the Barts Health NHS Trust, which sent a letter to his parents, Hollie Dance and Paul Battersbee, that “all fluid infusions, medications, including vasopressin will be stopped” on 1 August.
