FINALLY, the Apple Watch 7 has been unveiled – and we can’t wait to get our hands on the brand’s latest smartwatch.

The Watch 7 was official revealed at Apple’s September California Streaming event, and it was one of the products that got us most excited.

What is the Apple Watch 7?

The Apple Watch Series 7 is the next Apple smartwatch – or so we think.

Apple hasn’t officially confirmed any such device, but it looks all but certain that we’ll get one.

In fact, we’ve already seen a new version of watchOS, which the next smartwatch will launch with.

But we won’t find out until the official Apple Watch launch, which remains a mystery.

Apple Watch 7 release date – when is Series 7 out?

We were hoping the Apple Watch 7 would be released alongside the new iPhone 13, which is available to pre order from September 17 and to buy from September 24.

Sadly, that’s not the case: instead, we should expect the Watch 7 to launch later this autumn (which is vague, we know).

Here’s every smartwatch Apple has released to date…

  • Original: April 24, 2015
  • Series 1 and Series 2: September 16, 2016
  • Series 3: September 22, 2017
  • Series 4: September 21, 2018
  • Series 5: September 20, 2019
  • Series 6 and Watch SE: September 18, 2020

Importantly, recent reports suggest that there may be manufacturing delays for the Apple Watch 7.

This could push back the release date beyond September.

It’s unclear if the Apple Watch 7 will still be announced at the iPhone 13 event, or pushed back to a later date too.

Apple Watch 7 design and specs

Let’s start with appearances – the Apple Watch 7 sports a more organic look, with rounded corners and thinner bezels that offer a larger screen size of 20%.

Perhaps the biggest upgrade this larger screen offers is that you can now type on a standard, QWERTY-style keyboard.

We find this hard to imagine being practical via something that you wear on your wrist, but Apple are championing this new function.

The new smartwatch is also larger in size altogether, with the two faces of the 7 series measuring 41mm and 45mm, versus the 40mm and 44mm of the previous 6 line.

The officials at Apple also revealed that the Watch 7 comes in few new colours, which are midnight, starlight, green, blue and red (the first two essentially just being black and grey).

Also, the watch’s charging time has been promised to be 33% faster.

You shouldn’t expect any major new trackers or metrics, but there’s a new Mindfulness app and Fitness Plus feature on the way.

Apple Watch 7 price – how much does it cost?

Our guesses about the Apple Watch 7 were confirmed at the California Streaming event.

The Watch 7 will come in $399, and though the UK price wasn’t clarified, we can make a safe bet that you will be paying £379 for the latest wearable.

Which doesn’t make it a cheap spend, that’s for sure – but once it’s released, it should immediately bring down the price of the excellent Apple Watch 6, which currently starts at £379 on Amazon.

We’re confident that the Watch 6 will appear in the Black Friday sales in November.
