The tech giant always issues a big iPhone update in September – and 2022 is no different.

We’re expecting the iOS 16 update to go launch alongside the iPhone 14 in autumn.

You can even try it early from July if you join the iOS 16 public beta.

And there are three key changes to Apple Maps that you need to know about.

Multi-stop routing

One of the big Apple changes is a major upgrade to multi-stop routing.

You’ll be able to add up to 15 different stops before you begin navigating to a route.

It’s a major upgrade that will make it much easier to plan complicated journeys.

And it could be a god-send to anyone doing deliveries.

You can even add stop-offs mid-route simply by asking Siri to add an extra location to the journey.

There will be a new Recent section in Apple Maps that will let you see previous routes – even ones with multiple stops.

And you’ll be able to plan routes on a Mac running the new macOS 13 Ventura before sending it over to an iPhone on iOS 16.

Transit upgrade

We’re also going to see some changes to transit on Apple Maps.

If you regularly use public transport, you’ll be able to add your transit card to the Apple Wallet.

And you’ll even get notifications when your balance is low – with an option to top it up within the app.

Your travel fares will be calculated for your route within Apple Maps too.

So it should make life much easier for people who rely on public transport.

Graphics boost

This final update is less of a hack and more of a quality-of-life improvement.

In some locations, Apple offers a rich and detailed view of a place – including special 3D models for buildings and landmarks.

Apple is rolling this new look out for the Maps view of a host of new countries including Belgium, France, Israel, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, The Netherlands, New Zealand, the Palestinian territories, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland.
