APPLE has issued a quick-fire security update to patch up a ‘spyware’ flaw that let hackers gain access to iPhones, iPads, Macs and Watches.
According to the company’s security support page, Apple devices that stumble across a “maliciously crafted image” could give hackers free rein over a customers’ electronics just by clicking on it.
Such ‘malicious images’ could be malware embedded PDF documents, dodgy email attachments or even infected URLs linking to a picture.
But a cyber flaw in Apple’s iOS, MacOS and iPadOS meant that hackers could use them to enact any command on the target device.
“Processing a maliciously crafted image may lead to arbitrary code execution,” the tech giant warned.
The flaw was fortunately spotted by cyber team The Citizen Lab at The University of Torontoʼs Munk School.
Apple also found a similar bug that allowed maliciously crafted attachment to let hackers into iPhones through the Apple Wallet.
The company added that it is aware that both issues may have been actively exploited by cyber crooks.
Customers have been urged to install the update as soon as possible.
This helps prevent malware from spreading among devices.
