NETFLIX users have been frustrated with the app’s recommendation algorithm.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Netflix is the most popular streaming service in the world, with more than 260 million worldwide subscribers.

However, as of late, many Netflix subscribers have expressed discontent with the platform.

Specifically, some users have taken to social media to share they’re not pleased with the content it recommends.

“I wish they would remove all the stuff I watched from all categories except ‘Watch it Again’,” one person with the handle @Jackaloop said on a Reddit thread.

“It’s frustrating to sift through all the same stuff over and over when I know there are plenty of things I haven’t watched, just because I haven’t seen them come up,” the person continued.

“Yes. I wish I could hide items from ever coming up again,” another Reddit user shared under the thread.

A third Reddit user agreed, however, they noted that they had some luck under the ‘more like this’ tab.

“They’re rarely like the show I finished watching but they’re often more obscure stuff that don’t pop up in any of the other suggestions,” they noted.

Another Netflix subscriber called the algorithms an “absolute disgrace.”

“The level of technology we live with CANNOT preclude algorithms that do what you said and many other simple things,” they noted.

Meanwhile, Netflix broke down the process of its recommendation algorithm on its website.

It noted that it estimates the likelihood that a user will watch a particular title in its catalog based on several factors.

These include looking at a user’s interactions with Netflix’s service, such as their viewing history and how they rated other titles, and comparing them to other members with similar tastes and preferences on its service.

Other points that are taken into consideration include the time of day a person watches Netflix, the devices they are watching Netflix on, and how long they watch.

“All of these pieces of data are used as inputs that we process in our algorithms,” Netflix said.

They noted that the recommendations system does not include demographic information, such as age or gender.
