WORKERS looking for a pay packet boost might want to consider a job change, as some roles have seen wages rise by 20% over the past year.

While the average wage packet is set to go up 3% in 2022, research by Indeed has found that some workers are seeing their salaries rise much faster.

The biggest rise was seen in the job title sales consultant at a staggering 20%.

Millions of workers will see their salary grow this year when the minimum wage is increased in April.

A wage increase is more important than ever as millions of Brits face a cost of living crisis

Inflation has hit a 30-year high, meaning your cash doesn’t go as far as it used to.

It is set to hit 7% by April, which means even if you do get that 3% pay rise, in real terms you’re still losing out.

But some workers are bucking the trend. Indeed said there are plenty of roles that are enjoying double-digit pay rises.

Those seeing the biggest salary increases are earning a whopping 20% more than they were a year ago.

Jack Kennedy, a UK economist at Indeed said; “Workers in some occupations may be able to bargain for higher wages to cushion themselves from this cost of living squeeze.”

So what jobs should you set your targets on and which should you avoid?

The jobs with the biggest wage rises

Sales consultant: 20%

Almost every company has a sales team, and the role typically involves selling your firm’s products or services.

With a similar job title, business development executives have also seen their wages rise by a not-quite-as-generous 14.6%.

7.5-tonne truck driver: 16.2%

Following a shortage of drivers, it makes sense that trucking companies are trying to incentivise their jobs.

To entice applicants, some firms have even started offering joining bonuses of £1,000 or more.

To qualify, you’ll need a C1 driver’s license.

HGV drivers also saw an increase of 14.5%.

Line cooks: 15.3% increase

Line cooks saw the third highest increase to their wages out of all job titles.

Other cooking jobs such as sous chef positions also saw inflation-busting wage growth of15.2%.

It may be a good time to brush up on your cooking skills.

Welders: 12.8%

Some construction jobs have also enjoyed wage rises in recent months and welders had the biggest increase at 12.8%.

Other jobs in the industry have also seen salary rises, with painters and carpenters also in the top 15 jobs to see increases.

Packers: 10.6%

Retail workers have been essential through the pandemic, and particularly those working in grocery stores, which stayed open throughout.

It’s no surprise then than those with the “packer” job title have seen their wages rise, by up to 10.6%.

The jobs where wages have fallen

Of course, not all workers have seen their wage packets get bigger over recent months.

Salaries are often dictated by supply and demand, so the most desirable roles typically get more applicants and pay less money.

According to Indeed, a number of areas have seen wages drop. Here are some of them:

This is due to more people looking for work in the field, with job seeker interest going up 94% according to Indeed.

Management

You might think the bosses get the big bucks, but managerial jobs’ pay dropped by 2%.

Project management followed suit with a slight decrease as well.

An increase in interest in the sector since the beginning of the pandemic means the job market is more competitive, pushing wages down.

Education

Teaching and instruction jobs wages have stagnated seeing a slight decrease of 0.8%.

Many public sector workers have experienced a wage freeze as the government has tried to curb spending.

However, Chancellor Rishi Sunak did confirm in October’s Budget that 5 million public sector workers including police, soldiers and teachers will get a pay rise for the first time in two years.
