Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced the support in February to help people cope with soaring inflation.

If your property falls within the council tax band of A to D, you are entitled to a one-off cash payment from the government which is being handed out by your local authority.

The £150 does not need to be repaid, but the exact date you will be paid varies on your area and how you pay your council tax bill.

People who already have direct debits set up to pay bills are likely to get their payment sooner.

And those who pay by other means will need to apply for the money – some councils began revealing how non-direct debit customers can claim the money.

Last week, residents in Sunderland, Leeds and Manchester received their payment, and more are set to receive the sum in their accounts this week.

North Northamptonshire Council

North Northamptonshire Council says it aims to start making the payments to those who pay council tax through direct debit from Monday 9 May.

The authority also says households paying via other means will be contacted soon.
