BILLIONS of Google Chrome users have been urged to check their browser today after eight “high” risk security issues were discovered.
The tech giant found 26 bugs in total, which have now been fixed – but user’s will need to update their browsers urgently.

Google has released a new stable version of its Chrome web browser, titled Chrome 116, which fixes all the vulnerabilities.
The eight riskiest bugs were not used in the wild before they were discovered and fixed, according to Google.
However, they could have had some devastating impacts on users:
- Allow crooks to potentially hack into programmes using a use-after-free vulnerability.
- Take over web apps using a insufficient validations bug, resulting in monetary losses.
- Deploy spyware through a type confusion cyber gap.
Users will need to open up their settings and make sure that their browser is up to date, to ensure they can surf the web safely.
To update your browser, simply follow these steps: Open the Menu in the top right corner > Help > About Google Chrome to get the update downloaded and installed immediately on their systems.
There are always cyber crooks and nifty exploits lurking on whichever corner of the internet you inhabit.
This is why the search engine behemoth recently said it will start to issue security updates every week, instead of its usual fortnightly roll out.

To help combat cyber crime and phishing, Google also announced that its Chrome 116 update will include more Telemetry.
In laymen’s terms, the company has added an extra anti-phishing layer of security to its browser.
The Telemetry will send Google the data to better understand how “users interact with Safe Browsing phishing warnings and phishing pages,” according to the announcement.
In time, this is intended to help the tech giant protect users against phishing attacks more effectively.
