SCIENTISTS on the hunt for aliens are searching for a new type of signal.
The experts think alien life could be sending us a message via low uncharted frequencies.
SETI – the search for extraterrestrial intelligence – usually listens out for higher frequencies.
Researchers from SETI’s Breakthrough Listen project are using the European Low Frequency Array of radio telescopes to conduct their search.
The project involves lots of radio telescopes stretched over hundreds of kilometers.
Data is collected from multiple countries including France, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
The project has already listened to 1.6 million star systems.
This is the first time the researchers are looking out for megahertz radio frequencies.
Earth’s atmosphere is said to interfere with frequencies lower than 1.42 GHz.
The interference can it hard to hear signals.

Experts think they’ve been able to overcome this issue by using a telescope that allows for clear listening.
Breakthrough Listen has a funding of over $100million to try and find aliens.
This low-frequency test is just one of many attempts to try and find an alien message or signs of alien activity.
Scientists hope to find a signal that could indicate intelligent life.
This could be in the form of communication between alien spacecraft.
It could also be a leak from a transmitter, according to Space.com.
