ALEXA fans have been warned the popular voice assistant will stop working on some devices this week unless they make a key change.

If you have an Amazon Echo speaker or display you need not worry.

The changes happening this week affect Google Nest kit.

Google has announced that it will stop supporting legacy Nest skills for Alexa.

The shut off is due to happen on Friday (September 29).

Fortunately, there’s a new skill that’s been available for sometime now which most people use.

If you’re already using it, the changes won’t affect you.

For anyone using the legacy Alexa skill, you’ll have to make some alterations to your account to continue using the voice assistant to control your smart Nest devices.

Firstly, you’ll need to migrate your Nest account to Google.

Then you’ll be able to activate the new Google Nest Skill for Alexa.

1. Disable the old Nest Alexa skill

The first thing you’ll need to do is disable the old Nest Alexa skill.

  • Start by opening the Alexa app on your iPhone or Android phone.
  • Tap More.
  • Select Skills & Games.
  • Find Your Skills.
  • Look for the Nest Alexa skill and disable it.

2. Remove all Nest devices from the Alexa app

The second thing you’ll need to do is remove all Nest Devices from the Alexa app manually.

  • Open the Alexa app.
  • Go to the Devices tab.
  • Select the Nest device you wish to remove.
  • Tap Remove Device.

3. Enable the new Google Nest Alexa skill

You’ll need to enable the new Google Nest Alexa skill within the Google Home app with your Google Account.

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap the +.
  • Choose Service.
  • Select Amazon Alexa.
  • Follow the instructions to enable the skill in the Alexa app.
