One shopper shared the find on social media and was met with responses from hundreds of fans of the original snack.

Posting on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group they said: “For those who like their choccy biccies… Aldi now have milk chocolate rich tea…Not seen these before! Time for a cuppa…”

Another wrote: “OMFG yes yes yes! I used to buy packs and packs of them either out of Tescos or Asda about 12 years ago for months and months and all of a sudden they stopped selling them and I could find them anywhere.”

A third commented: “I bought three packets, used to be my faves when Cadbury did them.”

A fourth said: “Omg. Chocolate rich tea existed in the late 80s early 90s and vanished and I’ve never seen them since.”

And a fourth wrote: “Cadbury used to do these many years ago, they were nice.”

From the comments it looks as though the Cadbury snacks haven’t been available for around 10 years, much to fans disappointment.

Shoppers even created a petition in an attempt to get the biscuits back on shelves.

It reads: “My colleague Ryan occasionally reminiscences the last time he had the pleasure of eating these biscuits and went as far to say, it was the last time he felt true happiness.

“If you care about this biscuit, and the future of Ryan’s well being, please sign this petition and bring some good into this world.”

More than 1,200 supporters signed the petition.

Aldi’s version cost just 99p for a 248g pack and are available to buy in-store only.

They are your classic rich tea biscuits but with a layer of milk chocolate over the top.

Aldi says they are they are a “dunkable biscuit treat”.

Shoppers can find their nearest store using the handy shop-locator tool on the chain’s website.

We had a look and it looks like Co-op also used to do their own version of the biccies but they aren’t currently available online.

Aldi is known for its bargain chocolate bar dupes, offering cheaper version of big name brands including Cadbury, Kinder and M&Ms.

The discount chain is selling full-size Bounty dupes that “taste exactly the same” as the divisive brand.
