Aldi Australia has launched a first-of-its-kind robotic pizza vending machine dubbed a ‘Pizzabot’ at its Corner Store in North Sydney – with flavours Pepperoni and Italiana currently available from $8.99.

The snazzy new robotic technology – which can cook 450 pizzas a day – is serving up restaurant-grade gourmet pizza in just two minutes.

The machine also has a glass front, giving pizza-lovers a front row seat to the theatre of their pizza being cooked and packaged by the robotic machine.

The mechanism was created in collaboration with Bondi start-up Placer Robotics. Pizzabot is the first pizza vending machine to be designed and manufactured in Australia, and will debut exclusively at Aldi Corner Store in North Sydney.

The Pizzabot is presently exclusive to the corner store and there are no current plans to launch the product in standard Aldi stores.

But the machine doesn’t make the meal from scratch. The bases are handmade and partially cooked in Bondi, then topped with premium local ingredients. The pizzas are then chilled in Pizzabot’s precision temperature controller so they are ready to be cooked to order in a matter of minutes.

Pizzabot founder and managing director Matt Lipski said, ‘We use the freshest, highest quality ingredients – including buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil, gourmet salami and 48-hour rise dough.’

‘Our custom oven, which reaches temperatures as high as a wood fired oven with digital precision, guarantees the perfect crispness, taste and look of each slice, every time.’

Aldi Australia unveiled its first ever state-of-the-art Corner Store, the first of its kind, on Mount Street in North Sydney

The store in question is Aldi Australia’s first ever Corner Store – complete with freshly pressed orange juice, an in-house café serving barista-made coffee, an artisan bakery and self-serve checkouts.

The state-of-the-art store, the first of its kind, opened its doors in North Sydney offering shoppers a ‘convenience-driven’ experience on a smaller scale.

The small format convenient store under a new concept name is about half the size of a standard Aldi, which typically measures 1,200sq m – and features a new store layout to maximise efficiency, a modern interior design complemented by simple navigation, and extended trading hours.

Customers are greeted with a vibrant mural upon entry, fresh fruits and vegetables, a cheese stall and a huge range of convenient grab-and-go meals tailored to the busy city office workers and time-poor commuters.

The Corner Store has a coffee kiosk with locally roasted, barista-made coffee, an artisan bakery section, a collection of the retailer’s famous Special Buys range and even a ‘pup parking’ for pet owners to easily tether their dog on a leash while they do their grocery shop.
