ALDI has come to the rescue and is stocking a dupe of a McDonald’s item that was recently axed.

McDonald’s scrapped the popular potato waffles – a breakfast favourite – in December.

The item, which gets you three waffles per pack, went down a treat but were removed from the McDonald’s menu in December ahead of the restaurant’s January shake-up.

Fans were left devastated after realising the item had only been on the menu for a short amount of time.

They took to Twitter to share their disappointment at the time.

One gutted customer wrote: “I just want McDonald’s mini potato waffles back.”

While another said: “McDonald’s taking the potato waffles off the breakfast menu has ruined my life.”

But luckily, supermarket Aldi has launched its oven version of potato waffles stepping in to save shoppers from disappointment.

Shoppers can grab the 454g of frozen Four Seasons Mini Hash Brown Waffles for just 99p.

At McDonald’s potato waffles cost £1.39.

We’ve asked Aldi when the waffles were first introduced and will update the piece as soon as we know more – it looks like they’re fairly new though.

At the time of writing, they were in stock online but bear in mind that products and prices can vary from store to store.

And while Aldi touts them as a replacement, keep in mind that the taste may not be the same.

We had a look at other supermarkets to see if they were selling anything similar, but we didn’t find much.

While all supermarkets are selling normal-sized potato waffles, they were lacking with the minis which are most like the McDonald’s item.

However, Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Lidl all sell Birds Eye mini potato waffles.

Asda and Tesco are selling them for £2.75 while Sainsbury’s currently has them on offer for £2.50.

But Lidl trumps them all and is selling them for 99p.

Aldi has been known for producing dupes in the past and this isn’t the first time it’s been inspired by McDonald’s.

One foodie has tested all of its fast food dupes last year, including the McDonald’s big stack, chicken stack and big tasty.

In December, a McDonald’s manager even tried Aldi’s big mac dupe.

The bargain basement Big Stack is cooked in the microwave and will set you back just £1.79.

It has almost identical packaging to McDonald’s world-famous Big Mac, which costs about £3.19.
