APPLE has pledged to replace your faulty AirPods free of charge.

The California iPhone-maker launched a repair service for its £249 AirPods Pro last week after a handful of faulty units were sent out.

Customers reported hearing crackling sounds, as well as issues with the earphones’ built-in noise cancellation technology.

Apple said it will fix “crackling or static sounds that increase in loud environments, with exercise or while talking on the phone.”

In addition, the programme covers “Active Noise Cancellation not working as expected, such as a loss of bass sound, or an increase in background sounds, such as street or airplane noise.”

The recall programme was launched October 30, exactly a year since Apple launched the AirPods Pro.

Customers were handed a one-year warranty for the audio tech that expired last week.

The newly announced programme offers free repairs or replacements for a further year if your AirPods experience issues.

Only a “small percentage of AirPods Pro” are affected by the issues, according to Apple.

Affected gadgets were manufactured “before October 2020,” the company added.

That means almost every AirPods Pro model ever made could be affect, which would make it quite a large recall for Apple.

However, it’s a positive that Apple is extending its repairs programme rather than leaving customers out in the cold.

Apple AirPods – what you’ll need

Here’s what you need to know…

To use the AirPods, you’ll need to make sure you have one of the following:

  • iPhone with iOS 10 or later
  • iPad with iOS 10 or later
  • iPod Touch with iOS 10 or later
  • Apple Watch with WatchOS 3 or later
  • Mac with MacOS Sierra or later

You’ll also need to sign up for an iCloud account for the AirPods to work properly.

The AirPods aren’t the only bit of audio tech Apple is working on at the moment.

The California firm is also heavily rumoured to be working on its first pair of over-ear headphones.

They’ll allegedly feature magnetic ear cups and do away with the headphone jack, according to multiple reports.

Like most premium headphones, they’re expected to provide noise cancellation.

The luxury leather version is speculated to cost $599 in the US. There’s also thought to be a cheaper sports version coming out.

Rumours hint the headphones could be unveiled as early as next month.
