Stores have largely called off the Thanksgiving evening openings that had become routine in recent years, while many shoppers are seeking socially distanced ways to browse and buy. Executives at retail chains believe they are nevertheless poised to reach consumers, even if surging Covid-19 cases may result in weaker store visits and escalating digital orders.
