AN OVERGROWN former electricity substation lit a spark with buyers – after it was sold for almost double its asking price.

The roadside brick building had been left to ruin and was choked with ivy and other foliage after being empty for many years.

However, the decrepit property sold for a whopping £81,000 – nearly double the asking price listed at £50,000.

Debra Bisley, of Paul Fosh Auctions said: “I’ve sold some unusual properties over the years but this is definitely my first electricity substation.

“The property certainly sparked a lot on interest with many potential owners seemingly switched on to the possibilities and potential for this humble yet very well located lot.”

Ms Bisley said the fast-paced, competitive auction saw nearly 50 bids, made by seven bidders before it was sold to the new owner.

She said: “It’s anyone’s guess what the owner intends for their new possession but judging by the interest from bidders and the number of viewers, there must be loads of potential new uses.

“This most humble of structures benefits from drainage, is exempt from business rates and, naturally, has an electricity supply.”

The industrial estate is located in one of South Wales’s premium business locations, situated just three miles away from the M4 motorway and nine miles from Cardiff city centre.

“Treforest has a train station on the ‘Valleys Metro Line’ with a 20 minute journey time to Cardiff Central which is on the London Paddington main line and also provides links to other cities such as Birmingham and Manchester.” Ms Bisley added.

“The Ports of Cardiff, Barry and Newport, are all within 30 minutes drive time of Treforest. Cardiff Airport is only 15 miles away from Treforest and provides a well-established cargo unit.” She continued.

Footage of another abandoned building has circulated on TikTok, which offers a look inside a eerie children’s prison in an Irish seaside town.

The claustrophobic corridors are falling apart at the seams as paint strips from the walls and roof, while dirt and rubble cover the floors.

Some areas like the dentist room remain in surprisingly salvageable condition, with an eerie black chair and overhead light left behind.

While parts of the building have been sold for £1.75million, much of the structure remains empty and abandoned.

In the US, another property garnered a mass of attention online for it’s hidden creepy secret.

The two-bed home went on sale for £335,000, but photographs taken inside the New Hampshire home revealed a special guest lurking in the background.

Skulking behind furniture and peering through windows, a person dressed as notorious Halloween monster Michael Myers could be seen.

Un-nerving yet funny pictures provided home-hunters the opportunity to spot the movie serial killer in each room.

Realtor Tommy Bolduc revealed the estate agents came up with the idea ahead of Halloween.
