Premium Bonds holders may have noticed their chances of winning a top prize has dramatically increased over the past 12 months.
Although there continues to be just two £1million prizes each month, there are now almost seven times the number of prizes worth between £10,000 and £100,000 than there were this time last year.
August’s draw will see an estimated 77 prizes worth £100,000. That’s up from just 10 prizes of this value this time last year.
Better odds: In total the number of prizes worth between £10k and £100k will have risen from 167 in July 2022 to an estimated 1,308 prizes in August this year.
There will be 154 prizes worth £50,000 and 308 prizes worth £25,000 in August, up from just 19 and 40 respectively in July last year.
The number of £10,000 prizes are also massively up on last year. There will be 769 £10,000 prizes dished out next month. In July last year, there were only 98.
In total the number of prizes worth between £10,000 and £100,000 will have risen from 167 in July 2022 to an estimated 1,308 prizes in August this year.
That’s almost seven times more prizes. Over the same period the number of eligible bonds in the draw has only increased from 118.6billion to 121.5billion.
While prizes worth between £50 and £5,000 are also up on this time last year, the number of £25 prizes has been cut from 4.75million a year ago to an estimated 1.7million in August’s draw this year.

The smallest of holdings can also win big
In this month’s prize draw, more than 5million prizes worth almost £375 million will be paid out.
Six of the winners who won a prize worth between £25,000 and £100,000, held £1,000 in Premium Bonds or less.
The luckiest of which was a winner from East Sussex who won the £100k prize with just £300 of Premium Bonds in their account – a return of 33,233 per cent.
In total there were 71 prizes worth £100,000, 142 prizes worth £50,000 and 283 prizes worth £25,000, which equates to a total of 498 prizes.
This means that 1.2 per cent of the big winners held £1,000 in Premium Bonds or less.
Six further people with holdings of £1,000 less were lucky enough to win the £10,000 prize this month, of which there are now 709 prizes.
With the Premium Bonds prize fund rates rising from 3.7 per cent to 4 per cent in next month’s draw and the number of top prizes rising as a result, many Britons with smaller holdings will have yet more reason to check the prize draw.
