IF YOU find that the items in your fridge are going off too soon, these handy tips might help.

An Irish TikTok star has highlighted the areas of your refrigerator that are best suited to certain foodstuffs, such as milk or raw meat and fish.

Home care influencer and author Laura de Barra, 35, laid out her tips in a video posted to her 27,000 followers.

According to the London-based former property manager, the shelves of your fridge keep items at slightly different temperatures.

The drawers at the very bottom are humid, while the shelves above them are drier.

The bottom of these shelves is the coolest, while the top shelf is the least cool.

For this reason, you’re best off storing raw meat and fish on the bottom shelf of your fridge, as that needs to be kept coolest.

The middle shelf, on the other hand, is better for dairy items such as milk and cheese, as well as cooked meat.

The top shelf suits leftover food and ready-to-eat items as these last longer than almost anything else in your fridge.

Additionally, the coolest part of each shelf is towards the back, so anything you want to keep extra cool within its section can go there.

Due to their humidity, the bottom drawers are best for fruit and vegetables.

So what about the door of your fridge? According to Laura, that’s the warmest bit of the appliance as it is hit with room temperature air whenever you open it.

The shelves there are great for fresh herbs, condiments and jarred or pickled goods, and coffee and any beauty products that need to be kept cool.

TikTok is a great place to discover appliance and cleaning hacks, but you shouldn’t always take tips shared there as gospel.

Earlier this week, experts warned that a microwave hack shared on the platform could lead to a “serious risk of fire”.

Spondifferous, a musical duo with more than 88,000 followers on the platform, revealed a time-saving tip designed to stop people faffing with cooking instructions.

In a clip apparently mocking popular TikTok-style life hacks, the pair say: “Don’t waste time typing in the numbers on your microwave. I’ve got a life hack for you.

“You just type in 9-9-9-9, and then hit start whenever you wanna cook something. Whenever you’re done cooking, you just open the thing and it pauses.”

But safety experts did not see the funny side, warning that microwaves were linked to hundreds of fires in England alone last year.

Martyn Allen, Technical Director at the Electrical Safety First charity, told The Sun such dangerous hacks should “almost certainly be ignored”.
