A REVENGE porn helpline has been revealed by Meta, formerly Facebook, as it attempts to crack down on the non-consensual sharing of images.

The tech giant said the content has a “devastating impact on a person’s life” and wants users to report it.

Meta said: “Today, Meta and Facebook Ireland are supporting the launch of StopNCII.org with the UK Revenge Porn Helpline and more than 50 organizations across the world.

“This platform is the first global initiative of its kind to safely and securely help people who are concerned their intimate images (photos or videos of a person which feature nudity or are sexual in nature) may be shared without their consent.

“The UK Revenge Porn Helpline, in consultation with Meta, has developed this platform with privacy and security at every step thanks to extensive input from victims, survivors, experts, advocates and other tech partners.”

StopNCII.org is available to use worldwide but will be operated by the UK Revenge Porn Helpline.

The platform aims to give victims more control over their images and is said to be easy to use.

How to use the revenge porn helpline

Meta says: “When someone is concerned their intimate images have been posted or might be posted to online platforms like Facebook or Instagram, they can create a case through StopNCII.org to proactively detect them.”

If someone is threatening to post non-consensual intimate images of you online, you’ll need to go to StopNCII.org and click ‘Create Your Case’.

If you see revenge porn content of you or someone else on an app you should report it on that platform immediately.

If you submit content to the website it will be given a digital fingerprint so that tech companies participating in searching for the content don’t actually see it.

Instead, they’ll be monitoring whether someone has posted or is trying to post content with that digital fingerprint and will remove it.

This is intended to stop the unnecessary spread of the original image.

StopNCII.org is only for use by people over 18 years old.
