Following the death of Virgil Abloh, the celebrities, stylists and influencers who knew him took to Instagram to share old and recent private messages of correspondence with the fashion designer and LVMH artistic director.

While the public sharing of private messages is generally frowned upon in life, it has become an increasingly customary way for public figures and ordinary people alike to mourn a person’s death. Sharing snippets of a deceased person’s life can offer those grieving the opportunity to share memories and seek social support.
