A WOKE chocolate company doesn’t mention “Advent” on its Christmas calendars.

Tony’s Chocolonely said it wants the £13 “Countdown Calendar” to be “accessible to all who celebrate the festive season”.

But Andrea Williams, chief executive of Christian Concern, said it was “missing the meaning of Christmas”.

She added: “What’s this a countdown to? Advent anticipates the arrival of Jesus — the reason for the season.”

The Dutch firm’s calendar, on sale at Sainsbury’s, comes in plastic-free packaging, with shoppers urged to use its tray to grow plants.

Advent is the first season of the Church year and includes the four Sundays before Christmas.

Tony’s Chocolonely was contacted for comment.
