Stephen Barclay is asked to oversee efforts to stop people crossing Channel on small boats from France

Boris Johnson has ordered a review into the Channel crisis to find a way of cutting the number of people crossing from France on small boats.

The prime minister is said to have grown “exasperated” that there are no current policies in place that will tackle the issue. More than 24,500 people have arrived on the south coast during 2021.
