The Government has launched the Made With Care campaign highlighting positives of the job, including flexible hours and a real sense of purpose.

Research from care firm Anchor shows that public perception of the care sector has improved due to the pandemic, with many people wanting to see “parity of esteem” for the social care sector with the NHS.

Although starting pay can be low, rates are rising.

Roles offer hours to suit you, job security and the chance to make a real difference to others’ lives.

If you want to move into management, progression can be fast.

Jane Ashcroft CBE, Chief Executive of Anchor, said: “For too long, people working in social care have been unsung heroes.

“Social care has been the backbone of our nation during the pandemic, and can provide a meaningful, challenging and fulfilling career.”

“I’m proud of how far I’ve come and the difference I make to other people’s lives, no matter how small, and I look forward to seeing where my career in care takes me.

How to be happy at work

CARE roles regularly rank among the most fulfilling jobs.

To increase your chances of being fulfilled at work, follow these tips from happiness experts and executive coaches Martin Boroson and Carmel Moore, from The One Moment Company.

  • Know when you are at your best. Colour code your working week to pinpoint when happiness strikes. Maybe there is a small moment of satisfaction in a job well done? Then, identify those times when stress and pressure are high. Redesign your day as best you can to build in more of those good times.
  • Know when and why you are at your best. Is it early morning, late at night? Are you buzzing after being outside in daylight and exercising? Build in some daily time to rest and recover.
  • Know who brings out your best. Are there colleagues, friends and family who inspire you? Are there mentors and peers who can help solve a problem with you? On the other hand, are there people who drain you? Who we spend our time with every day significantly affects how happy we feel, so review and get your balance right.
  • Know what is your best. Are you clear about your purpose and your priorities? It is hard to be happy if you don’t give enough time to what matters most to you. Acknowledge your best and create time each week to celebrate what matters to you.
