Consumer expert Martyn James says: “There’s a huge amount of science, psychology and behavioural studies with the selection boxes.

“Though chocolatiers will tell you the most popular options are the most expensive to make, the fact is giving you a limited taste of the best ones means you’re more likely to desire and want another box.

“The unpopular ones mean the box lingers longer – which means you’re more likely to remember the brand.”

We found a tub of Celebrations contains 12 Snickers and only six Galaxy chocs.

And there are seven orange cremes in a tub of Roses, but only four truffles.
