U.S. private-equity firm Carlyle Group Inc. is nearing a $2 billion deal to acquire AutoForm Engineering GmbH, a Switzerland-based industrial software provider, according to people familiar with the matter.

Carlyle is in talks to acquire the business from smaller European buyout rival Astorg. The price is expected to be 1.75 billion euros, equivalent to nearly $2 billion. A deal is expected to be announced this week.
