WANT to spruce up your home without splashing out?
A total refurb can cost thousands but a simple revamp can make a big difference for little cost. And some tricks are cheap without looking it. Here are some tips to get your home fixed up for Christmas . . .
UPCYCLE: Transform tired-looking cupboards and tables with a lick of paint. Armed with primer, sandpaper and brushes, breathe new life into old wooden furniture. A 750ml pot of Farrow & Ball Estate paint for wood surfaces costs £32, or try Johnstone’s Revive Chalky Furniture Paint 750ml pot, £7.99 at B&M.

SPEND ’N’ SAVE: Use a discount card if buying a number of items. For example, become a member of B&Q Club in advance of any DIY projects.
You will then be sent offers and vouchers via email. The first voucher is worth £5 at diy.com.
Save: £5 off spends of £30 or more
THE FLOOR’S STICKY: Cheap flooring does not look so obviously cheap nowadays. You can also buy easy-to-clean peel-and-stick floor tiles and planks. A pack of seven wood-effect floor planks are £10 per square metre at B&M. Meanwhile, there is lots of choice for quality vinyl designs. Carpetright typically charges from £8.99 per metre for standard vinyl. Head to burts.co.uk for prices starting at £6.99.

LIGHTEN UP: A change in lighting gives an instant lift to any room. Statement lighting can be as simple as a paper lantern. Dunelm sells a range of origami-style, easy-fit pendant lanterns for £10. A similar Argos Home Skandi paper shade is selling for £3.60.
Save: £19.20 on the price of three
WONDER WALL: Decorating just a single wall differently in a room can have a powerful effect. Next.co.uk sells vibrant, textured wallpaper at £9 for a ten-metre roll. A pot of Dulux Blue Babe ceiling and wall paint from B&Q costs £18 for a 2.5-litre tin — or two for £28.
Wilko wall and ceiling paint in Moody Blue comes in at £12 for the same size pot — or you can get two for £20.
