BETHESDA boss Todd Howard has broken the news that Elder Scrolls 6 may not launch until as late as 2026.

That means we won’t see a Skyrim sequel until after GTA 6 has launched, which makes you appreciate just how long the wait is going to be.

Todd Howards says fans are looking at a 15 year gap between Skyrim and Elder Scrolls 6

In in interview with IGN Unfiltered, host Ryan McCaffrey suggested that the gap between Skyrim and the Elder Scrolls 6 will be “probably 15 years.”

Skyrim released in on November 11, 2011, so a 15 year gap puts the Elder Scrolls release somewhere in the region of late 2026, or even 2027.

“People can do the math on what our schedules look like,” Howard replied without outright confirming anything either way.

He also mentioned a four to five year development cycle for Bethesda’s titles during the interview.

The studio is currently working on Starfield, which has a confirmed launch date of November 11, 2022.

So if there’s no overlap between development, it’s going to be a long wait before we get our hands on Elder Scrolls 6.

However at around the 23 minute mark, Howard does say that there’s some overlap during the process.

“There’s more overlap I think, thank ‘do a game, stop, do a game.”

At the moment, the team is very much focused on Starfield.

And with The Elder Scrolls Online still going strong, and the Skyrim Anniversary Edition launching on PS5 and Xbox Series X, there’s no real rush to get Elder Scrolls 6 underway just yet.
