SAINSBURY’S shoppers can book a Christmas delivery slot from next month, the supermarket said as it confirmed that stores will close on Boxing Day.

The grocer has also revealed when festive food, such as fresh turkeys, will arrive in shops amid fears of shortages over the holiday season.

Delivery pass holders can book their Christmas food order from November 23 and other customers can secure a slot from November 30.

Sainsbury’s will be closed on Boxing Day before reopening on Monday, December 27.

That includes its convenience stores and petrol stations as well as Argos and Habitat branches.

Other retailers including M&S, Aldi, Morrisons and Poundland will close on December 26.

Sainsbury’s also updated customers on when Christmas products will be hitting the shops, with fresh turkeys arriving from December 19.

Sainsbury’s boss Simon Roberts warned customers that the grocer expects to sell “more fresh turkeys this year than ever before”.

However he said he wants to “reassure” shoppers “that there will be plenty of food” amid concerns over empty supermarket shelves this Christmas.

“We are confident that even if the exact product you are looking for isn’t available, there will be a good alternative,” Mr Roberts said.

Party food will arrive in stores from mid-November and, from December 1, festive favourites like pigs in blankets and Christmas cheeses will be on the shelves.

Longer-life products such as Christmas cakes and puddings, mince pies, nuts and cranberry sauce are already available.

Shoppers can already stock up on frozen turkeys and frozen Christmas party foods.

The retailer will hold its annual toy sale in mid-November, giving parents the chance to stock up on discounted presents before the big day.

Asda has already revealed when shoppers can book a Christmas delivery slot.
