Lloyds Bank and Halifax to close 48 branches – see the full list

LLOYDS Bank and Halifax will close 48 branches in England and Wales.

Halifax is preparing to shut down seven sites, while Lloyds will close 41, with the closures to begin in January next year

Lloyds Banking Group, which owns both brands, said fewer customers are using the branches marked for closure.

The company said customers will be able to withdraw cash within a third of a mile from all the sites that are set to close down.

Lloyds Banking Group has already closed 56 banks this year and is in the process of shutting a further 44 before the end of November.

The latest closures, which will be completed by April 2022, bring the total to 148 since the beginning of this year.

That will leave 738 Lloyds Bank branches, 553 Halifax branches, and 184 Bank of Scotland branches.

There are no Bank of Scotland branch closures as part of today’s announcement.

Vim Maru, retail director for Lloyds Banking Group, said: “Like many other businesses, we’ve seen people using our branches less frequently in recent years, and this decline is continuing.

“Our branches remain a fundamental part of how we serve our customers but we need to ensure the size of our branch network reflects the number of customers wanting to use them.”

Lloyds said it is trialling a Community Banker scheme, where a banker visits a location such as a library to provide support and advice to customers in areas without a high street branch.
