BRITS who claim Universal Credit and other benefits will be able to apply using an app for the first time from next year.
As well as launching an app, the government is making changes to how you log into benefits services using gov.uk.

The app is expected to launch towards the end of next year, and it is intended to make it easier for people to access government services.
That includes applying for Universal Credit, but also free school meals and support for disabled family members.
Claimants will also be able to use the app to update their Universal Credit accounts and view any changes to payments.
Currently people have to log onto the gov.uk website in order to apply for benefits. We’ve previously explained how to apply for Universal Credit.
Alongside the new app, the government is streamlining the gov.uk website so Brits only have to use one account and password to access different services.
Currently, gov.uk has 191 ways for people to set up accounts with 44 different sign-in methods.
All government departments – including the Department for Work and Pensions – are involved in the app’s development.
Use of the app will be optional, and people can continue to use other methods, such as gov.uk website, to access government services.
Work on the app has just begun, so details on exactly how it will work are yet to be revealed.
Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Steve Barclay said yesterday: “Now more than ever, it is important that government responds to people’s heightened expectations about the services they use.
“During the pandemic, people have had to interact with public services in a variety of new ways, including the NHS app and the vaccine booking service.”
