The FTSE 100 closed 0.7 per cent higher on Monday at 7,146.85 while the FTSE 250 was down 0.2 per cent at 22,487.47. Mining firms were among the top-performing firms today, including Ferrexpo and Anglo American.

Households must prepare for interest rates to rise earlier than expected as the Bank of England attempts to keep a lid on inflation, a key policymaker has warned.
