A WOMAN has cut off her husband’s money after he spent a whopping £42,000 on an online game.
Unable to trust her husband, the wife has taken to the internet for support saying that her hubby’s spending needs to be controlled.
After his massive online splurge, the wife revealed on Reddit that this amount of money spent wasn’t nothing to them as he makes £80,000 a year while she earns £35,000.
“He began playing a phone game called Marvel Contest of Champions and he managed to spend almost £31k ($60k),” told the wife.
Adding: “After seeing our bank statement, I sat him down and said that for the sake of our financial future we’d have to really watch his spending. And it would need to be controlled for the foreseeable future.”
The wife said that her 27-year-old hubby was not happy with having his finances controlled and went on to create his own Reddit post for support.
Admitting to being a “compulsive spender” the man said that he feels his wife is enjoying the control.
“My only issue is that I now have to ask her for money, and share receipts for every purchase” he said.
He added: “I am sort of tired of answering to her. It’s not so much asking her for money. It’s just the way she says, ‘allowance’ with a smirk. And then expects receipts and exact change.”
Many of the comments on the husband’s post agreed with his wife: “Tens of thousands? That’s a car, that’s a down payment for a house. That account is her money too; I don’t blame her for not trusting you” said one person.
“I don’t know why you actually think she’s at fault for anything” the person added.
The husband used comments from others that side with him to suggest she is being too harsh such as one that stated the wife should “cut him some slack.”
The wife showed him the replies on her own post which only led to more confrontation between the couple.
“After showing him the replies that contrasted the one he showed me, he basically said I was an A hole”, said the wife.
After requesting a refund from Apple, the woman said that she had to join their two bank accounts so she could keep an eye on the money.
“We had separate accounts. But I decided I needed all our money in one place to keep an eye on it. And him. From now on,” she said.
Adding: “So am I the A hole for cutting him off?”
In the comments people are quick to point out that the amount the husband splurged was a huge and sympathised with the wife.
“I felt bad when I once spent $10 on a phone game in a month. I can’t imagine spending £42k” said one person.
Another said: “Kids have get in trouble for blowing cash on these games. The companies that make them exploit children’s undeveloped understanding of money. I have real concerns about a 27-year-old having this little impulse control.”
