The top U.S. crash investigator said it was opening an investigation into the fatal crash of a Tesla Inc. Model 3 car that hit a tree in Florida this week.

The National Transportation Safety Board on Friday said it would “focus on the operation of the vehicle and the postcrash fire that consumed the vehicle.”
