Former chancellor’s actions in relation to OakNorth, who he is paid to advise, ‘not acceptable’

The former chancellor Philip Hammond has been rebuked for using his government connections to assist a bank he is paid to advise.

Eric Pickles, who chairs the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (Acoba), said it was an “unwise step” for Hammond to contact a senior Treasury official about a project developed by OakNorth.
