TWITTER is having to make changes to its redesign of the app after users complained about headaches and migraines.

The redesign rolled out last week and involves high-contrast colours and a new font called Chirp.

The official Twitter Accessibility account has tweeted: “We’re making contrast changes on all buttons to make them easier on the eyes because you told us the new look is uncomfortable for people with sensory sensitivities. We’re listening and iterating.”

It added: “We’ve identified issues with the Chirp font for Windows users and are actively working on a fix.

“Thanks for your patience and please let us know if you have additional feedback.”

One disgruntled Twitter user replied: “The Chirp font needs to be removed, it’s not readable on most devices and even if you think it’s readable the people with vision issues don’t.

“I am one of those people. Fortunately I can change it on my desktop using developer tools I cannot change it on my phone.”

Many others complained that Chirp was difficult and even pain inducing for them to read.

Twitter had previously explained that the redesign was supposed to improve how people view content and clean up “visual clutter”.

The new design has since been blasted as uncomfortably bright and confusing.

One user explained: “It’s smaller and denser now, which means I need to strain my eyes more to read.”

The Chirp font was announced back in January by Twitter head of branding Derrit DeRouen.
