TEN-DAY BREAK BOOST

It comes as Brits look forward to a a four-day Bank Holiday weekend to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Her Majesty, 95, will enjoy a four-day bonanza to mark her 70th year on the throne.

The special celebration will include 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians.

The Palace confirmed the extra days off, which will “provide an opportunity for communities and people to come together and celebrate the historic milestone”.

The August bank holiday was introduced in the Bank Holidays Act 1871 to give bankers the opportunity to enjoy and participate in cricket.

Up until 1971 it always took place on the first Monday of August.

Britain used to enjoy 33 official holidays until 1834, but the number was then slashed to four.
