WHATSAPP has finally added a self-destructing feature for photos and videos.

The Snapchat-style ‘View Once’ tool is live today – and it’s really easy to use.

It’s a long-requested feature that will finally be making its way to iPhone and Android.

And it’s been tested relentlessly – WhatsApp beta users will already have given it a go.

But it’s now available in the general release version of the app.

“Taking photos or videos on our phones has become a big part of our lives,” said WhatsApp.

“But not everything we share needs to stick around forever or sit on our camera roll taking up space.

“In order to give people an additional layer of privacy and control over what they said, from today WhatsApp is rolling out ‘View Once’ photos and videos.”

Before you get started, you’ll need to make sure you’re using the latest version of the app.

On iPhone, that means going to the App Store and checking for WhatsApp updates.

And it’s the same process on Android, but with the Google Play Store instead.

These photos won’t automatically be saved in camera rolls, which is good news.

Sadly, unlike Snapchat, WhatsApp won’t be alerting users if someone screenshots the disappearing message.

But it still adds a bonus layer of security that doesn’t currently exist in WhatsApp.

To send one, you’ll need to update to the latest WhatsApp beta and then tap the ‘1’ icon when sharing a photo or video.

WhatsApp says you might use the feature to send photos of clothes you’re trying on in a shop, or sensitive info like a WiFi password.

It's a great way to send sensitive info – but be careful, as images can still be screen grabbed
