US sanctions and coronavirus crisis lead to food shortages and high prices, sparking one of the biggest such demonstrations in memory

Thousands of Cubans have marched on Havana’s Malecon promenade and elsewhere to protest against food shortages and high prices amid the coronavirus crisis, in one of biggest anti-government demonstrations in memory.

Many young people took part in the Sunday afternoon protest in the capital, which disrupted traffic until police moved in after several hours when a few protesters threw rocks.
