THERE’S a real art to saving money, and it includes buying things at the right time.
It’s currently Kids’ Art Week so if you’re already thinking about activities for the summer holidays, now is the time to stock up on supplies. Maybe make the most of these crafty offers . . .
PAINT BY (LESS) NUMBERS: When you think of art, you probably instantly think of paint but don’t worry, child-friendly paints can be picked up on the cheap. It’s definitely worth checking out The Works at the moment. It has a lovely set of 12 Kids’ Poster Paints for £3, usually £4.99. Alternatively, there’s also a more compact and easy-to-clean Colour Crazy 22 Watercolour Paints and Brush Set for just £3, usually £3.99.
NO STONY FACES: Once the summer sun returns, get the kids outside for a spot of painting — and they don’t even need paper. Stones and pebbles can be great fun to paint and they cost nothing. Young artists can even use them as inspiration to make up stories or create a giant piece of natural art. Or you can place the finished products around the garden to add colour.
CRAFTY BUSINESS: If your children are more crafty when it comes to their artworks, let their imagination run wild with a craft box full of the perfect selection of ingredients for getting creative. Hobbycraft currently has a Giant Box of Craft with 1,000 pieces for just £6. The same box is £9.79 on Amazon.co.uk.
NO MUGS: If you have any old mugs, cups or plant pots knocking around, these can also be great for kids to paint — and make great gifts for grandparents and family friends too. Kids paint their chosen designs and, when finished, you (or another adult) can give the final result a spray with protective lacquer. The Wilko Clear Spray Paint Lacquer is great for crafts and works well on ceramic projects, plus at £5.50 it’s cheaper than options sold at places like toolstation.com for £7.61.
