HIGH-STREET retailer Gap will close all its 81 stores in the UK and Ireland.

The clothing chain will go completely online, it was announced tonight.

The firm said it would shut all its stores “in a phased manner” between the August and the end of September.

It includes 19 stores that were due to close in July as their leases were expiring.

It’s not known yet how many jobs will be lost, but Gap said it was “not exiting the UK market”.

The decision follows strategic review of the retail giant’s European business.
